Located on the corner of Arch St. & Vine St. in Chillicothe, the new Intermediate School was opened to the public in January of 2019. Stretching over 121,400 sq. feet, the new building was designed with 21st century learning environments to promote interactive learning and higher-level thinking skills.
The Chillicothe Intermediate School was designed with local history in mind. The school showcases the rich history of the city of Chillicothe, Ohio's first capital, throughout the building. The building was constructed within close proximity to an urban environment with an extremely condensed footprint.
Located on the corner of Cherry St. & Mill St. in Chillicothe, the new Primary School was opened to the public in August of 2018. Stretching over 79,000 sq. feet, the new building was designed with 21st century learning environments to promote interactive learning and higher-level thinking skills. The Chillicothe Primary School was designed with local history in mind. The school showcases the rich history of the city of Chillicothe, Ohio's first capital, throughout the building.
The Chillicothe Primary School was built in the location of the old Western School Building. Standing for 106 years, the Western School was built in 1911 and was one of several elementary schools within the district. The building was demolished as part of the Chillicothe CSD Project. The Chillicothe Primary Facility (Grades PK-2) were constructed within close proximity to an urban environment with an extremely condensed footprint.
After securing funding to move forward with the construction of two new elementary schools in November of 2015, the Chillicothe City School District Board of Education approved the bid to construct pavilions on both the east and west sides of the stadium. These pavilions included ticket booths, restrooms & concessions. Additionally, parking areas were added on the west side of the stadium along Stacey Rd.
Located on the corner of Arch St. & Stacey Rd. in Chillicothe, the Obadiah Harris & Family Athletic Complex operates as the home for the Chillicothe Cavalier Track & Field and Football programs. After the renovation, the District was selected to host OHSAA High School Football Playoff games.
In order to preserve local history, the District wanted to keep the cupola which was formerly perched atop the J.A. Smith Middle School. As part of the project, the cupola was removed prior to the demolition of the building and is now located in the southern portion of the stadium. The Chillicothe Athletic Complex was renovated within close proximity to an urban environment with an extremely condensed footprint.
The Chillicothe City School District moved forward with plans to build a new baseball complex for the Chillicothe Baseball program. The district completed the abatement & demolition of several vacant buildings after the completion of the new intermediate & primary schools. After demolition, the District was left with areas available for development.
Located on the corner of East Main Street & Cutright Drive, the new baseball complex is being built on the location of one of the District's former elementary schools, Mt. Logan Elementary. While Mt. Logan was not demolished, it is no longer being used as an elementary school, allowing the district to use the area for the baseball program. The Chillicothe Baseball Complex was constructed within close proximity to an urban environment with a lightly condensed footprint.
The District selected the Western Annex as the location for the new Primary School. In early 2017, the District approved the demolition of several buildings within Chillicothe as a part of the construction project. Some of the buildings included, The Western Annex (Site of the new Primary School K-2), The J.A. Smith Middle School (Site of the new Intermediate School), & Hopewell Elementary.
The Western Annex was built in 1911 and had several different uses over the years. Prior to its demolition in 2017, the most recent use was as a Latchkey & Pre-School. The District also housed administrative offices in the Western Annex Building.
The Western Annex was demolished within close proximity to an urban environment with an extremely condensed footprint. Since the demolition was within a highly condensed residential area, the building was kept watered down to reduce the dust & debris in the air quality. After the demolition of the Western Annex, the site was cleaned up and leveled out in preparation for early site work to begin for the Chillicothe Primary School (K-2).
Hopewell Elementary School was once one of several elementary schools in the Chillicothe City School District, however it has been closed to students for more than a decade. In recent years, the building served as a maintenance building for the District.
The abatement & demolition of Hopewell Elementary School and the Western Annex were completed simultaneously. Due to the age of the building, asbestos was needed to be removed from both buildings and were successfully removed within the 6-week timeframe. The demolition of the Hopewell building was completed within the designated timeframe.
