The East Clinton Middle School building was built in 1928, making it one of the oldest school buildings that is still operational in Ohio. This building has several issues with the plumbing and electrical units, which are very costly to replace. Also, the district would need to equip the building and make changes in order to be in compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA). Both of these changes would have cost the district millions of dollars.
Attempting to renovate a building that is nearly 100 years old was not a feasible plan, which is why the district approved the construction of a new middle school facility. Construction of the new school is scheduled to begin on April 2, 2021. The middle school building will be 52,856 sq. ft. in size, of which 11,918 sq. ft. is co-funded and the remaining 40,938 sq. ft. is to be funded by locally funded initiatives (LFI).
In November of 2018 a bond issue passed allowing the renovation of New Vienna Elementary, Sabina Elementary & the renovation of East Clinton High School. The District also approved the construction of a new middle school at the campus in Lees Creek, Ohio.

The entrance to the current middle school presents security concerns for the District. Before a visitor would reach the office to get permission to go through the building, there are two sets of stairs that lead to two separate floors. During the design phase, the District made plans for upgraded security enhancements in the new middle school facility. In addition, the District will also be making security upgrades to the entrances of New Vienna Elementary, Sabina Elementary & East Clinton High School.
