On May 4th, 2021, Indian Hill EVSD and the surrounding community passed the combined operating/bond levy. This will allow the district to move forward with plans to address the issues they have with their current facilities. The district is planning to build a new middle school, renovate the existing high school & make renovations and additions to the elementary and primary schools. As part of the project, the district will be demolishing the current middle school facility (Demolition Scheduled: Summer 2021) and the 'sawtooth' wing at the elementary school (Demolition Scheduled: Summer 2023).
Construction will begin in the summer of 2021 for the Indian Hill Middle School building. The district is anticipating that construction will be complete in the summer of 2023. Since the new middle school is being built on the same location as the current middle school, demolition of the current middle school building will be the first part of the project. Students in grades 6-8 will be relocated to other buildings and into modular classrooms during the 2021 school year.
The district will be retaining the current Indian Hill Middle School gymnasium and will be utilizing it during the majority of construction. All other spaces at the current middle school will be demolished, except for some art installations that the district would like preserved. Once completed, the new Indian Hill Middle School will be approximately 130,000 square ft.
The Indian Hill Elementary School project is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2022 and will be completed in the summer of 2023. The bond that was passed will allow the district to create a multi-use performance and recreational space to address both the need for an auditorium and a larger gymnasium in this building. This new space will replace the current 'sawtooth' area of Indian Hill Elementary, which was not replaced when the new portion of the elementary school was constructed in 2004. This new addition will allow new spaces for art, music, language, STEM & hands-on learning.
The district also had safety and security needs throughout the buildings on campus. These new additions & renovations will allow for the district to address these needs. Some of the safety and security upgrades for Indian Hill Elementary School include:
Enhanced main entry with security vestibule, improved access control and monitoring, and direct line of site from front offices
Improved access control at all exits and entrances
Improved video surveillance throughout building and campus
Improved visibility in public and high-traffic areas
Improved secure perimeter around outdoor learning and play spaces Updated/improved fire alarm and life safety systems
Updated/Expanded life safety systems
Modified drop off drive and parking to improve separation of traffic and student play spaces
Modified drives and parking to improve flow and separation of traffic
Separate entrance for after hours events and programs
Clear separation of public use and student use areas
The new addition is proposed to be built behind the 'sawtooth' portion of the existing facility. The addition will be constructed on the current parking lot that sits behind the 'sawtooth' area. Using this location for the addition will move parking out toward the front of the building and provide a clear separation between outdoor play areas and car traffic.
The Indian Hill Primary School project will occupy the same timeline as the Indian Hill Elementary School project. It will begin in the spring of 2022 and will be completed in the summer of 2023. The primary school building has several issues that will be addressed during the renovations. The mechanical systems within the building are one of the problems that the district would like to address, specifically the air filtration system. The bond that was passed would allow the district to invest in a new system to improve indoor air quality for the students.
The district also plans on making significant renovations to common areas located near the front of the building. Some of these common areas include the multi-purpose room, auditorium, entry lobby and the cafeteria. Additionally, renovations will be made to the building's front office and student support spaces. The district will also be adding a new entry addition to the front of the building. This new entry will update the appearance of the front of the building, while also improving safety and security needs. The safety and security upgrades include:
New main entry with security vestibule and improved access control and monitoring
Improved access control at all exits and entrances
Improved video surveillance throughout the building and campus
Improved visibility in public and high-traffic areas
Reconfigured front offices with direct line of site to main entry doors
Improved secure perimeter around outdoor learning spaces and play areas
Modified drop off drive and parking to improve separation of traffic and student play spaces
Updated/improved fire alarm and life safety systems
Renovations of the Indian Hill High School will begin in the summer of 2022. The district has key items within the high school that will be addressed, specifically, the current mechanical systems. Replacing the old systems is a part of the district's long-term master plan to improve efficiency and lower on-going operations costs. As part of the renovations, the district plans to connect the high school to the central plant, as well as adding a new high efficiency chiller and boiler in the central plant.
The district is also planning for significant renovations to be completed to the music rooms and the remaining athletic spaces at the back portion of the building, known as the 'commons'. These areas are still in their original state as they have not been renovated in any of the previous renovation projects completed by the district. Additionally, the district will be making improvements to the buildings' safety and security. These safety and security upgrades include:
Enhanced main entry with security vestibule, improved access control and monitoring, and direct line of site from the front offices
Improved access control at all exits and entrances
Improved video surveillance throughout the building and campus
Improved visibility in public and high-traffic areas
Updated/improved fire alarm and life safety systems
